    History

    In 2000, the company Miro developed a brand Mambo based on a content management system. After a year, it was made free to the public under the GNU General Public License. In 2005, there was a controversy between the members of the coordination board of the Mambo Foundation. As a result, the Joomla appeared on August 17, 2005. It can be considered as a fork of Mambo.

    1. PHP must be higher than Version 5.3.10.
    2. Joomla has support for different kinds of databases.
    3. Joomla also supports different web servers.

    Joomla is self-hosted.

    Cost

    Users can create websites for free, hosted on their own servers or on a Joomla subdomain. There are also 3 subscriptions: Personal(99$ a year), Business(199$ a year), Agency(399$ a year).

    User base

    Joomla has been downloaded more than 123 million times – a growth of 26 million since the beginning of 2020, and 30 million since 2019.
